Tyson Fury vs. Otto Wallin was actually… pretty good

For a fight that nobody thought much of going in, Tyson Fury vs. Otto Wallin ended being the “fight of the night” on one of boxing’s biggest days. To everyone’s surprise, including his own, the lineal heavyweight champion had his hands full with the more than game Swede many gave no chance.

Wallin, a massive underdog, had Fury bleeding like Floyd Mayweather’s bank account early on, after opening up a gruesome cut over the “Gypsy King’s” eye. Despite the valiant effort, the Swedish upstart ultimately fell short on the cards with Fury winning via unanimous decision but made a lot of new fans for showing a fighting spirit.

After the bout, Fury was still furious, calling out a familiar foe:

Devin Haney sends a message to Lomachenko

Devin Haney dominated with his Pterodactyl-like reach all fight before sending the overmatched Zaur Abdullaev into extinction with a brutal fifth-round stoppage.

After the demolition job, Haney targeted the Ukranian “Matrix” by referring to Vasyl Lomachenko as “No-machenko.”

Speaking of Ryan Garcia…

Oddly or not so much, considering his vast social media presence. The biggest boxing story of the weekend was Ryan Garcia, who didn’t fight but topped Twitter timelines by “going off” on his own Golden Boy Promotions. His much-anticipated fight with Avery Sparrow was canceled after Sparrow was a no show for the weigh-in. He had a good excuse as he was arrested for a gun charge. Sparrow was reportedly apprehended while shopping at Target in Los Angeles. LOL! Only in boxing.

It was rumored that a last-minute opponent would step in to face King Ryan, most notably Filipino upstart Romero Duno (more on him below), but Garcia was ultimately left without a dance partner this weekend, although he did throw some verbal jabs via Twitter.

Duno threw more fuel onto the fire when he gaslighted Garcia after winning his fight. We get the feeling this story is just beginning.

Jaime Munguia makes Mexico proud

WBO junior middleweight champ Jaime Munguia did set off some fireworks on Mexican Independence Day, successfully defending his title against Ghanaian fighter Patrick Allotey via TKO. Undefeated and just 22 years old, Munguia is a star on the rise who will make noise (and a lot of money) when he moves up to middleweight.

No Usyk, no problem for Takam

Facing undisputed cruiserweight champ Oleksandr Usyk in his heavyweight debut would make French-Cameroonian bruiser Carlos Takam a much richer man. Unfortunately, the scheduled bout hit a snag, and Takam instead outclassed Detroit-born journeyman Craig Lewis to wrap up a busy boxing weekend.
