Canelo Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev is Going Down Nov. 2

It’s happening. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be bulking up for his next fight, a daunting matchup against Sergey Kovalev for the Russian’s coveted WBO light heavyweight championship on November 2nd. The fight will take place in Las Vegas and broadcast on DAZN.

A natural middleweight, Alvarez will be jumping up two weight classes for this challenge. Widely considered boxing’s P4P king, the 29-year-old Mexican superstar has amassed an incredible 52 win record, with only two blemishes: a draw with Gennady Golovkin and an early career loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Kovalev secured the big-money bout after KOing rising star Anthony Yarde in a grueling slugfest last month. “Krusher” has thrived as a light heavyweight thanks to his enormous punching power, but the quick turnaround fight could play a factor for the 36-year-old. The burly Russian boasts a vaunted record of 34 victories, with 29 KOs. He has only lost three times, with two controversial “L’s” to Andre Ward and a knockout loss to Eleider Alvarez that he quickly avenged in a rematch.

Alvarez enters the fight a 4:1 favorite but it’s hardly a done deal. Weight classes exist for a reason, and Kovalev has a 4” height advantage. Come November, we’ll see if Canelo can notch another impressive victory in his Hall of Fame resume or if the combination of size, experience, and Russian steel is just too much for the Mexican icon.
